Ashley Fiona is a ceramic artist based in Port Stephens on Worimi land, New South Wales, whose work honours the profound rituals of death and mourning through the creation of intricately hand-painted Ashkeeper urns—beautiful vessels designed to hold the ashes of loved ones.
Ashley graduated with First Class Honours from the College of Fine Arts (COFA) at the University of New South Wales in 2010. Since then, she has exhibited widely across Australia, with her work featured in prominent galleries such as Manly Art Gallery, Hawkesbury Regional Gallery, Brisbane Modern Art Gallery, and Gosford Regional Art Gallery.
She has participated in national residencies including SODA (Sculptural Objects and Design Australia) and the International Ceramic Residency in Fremantle, WA. In 2013, Ashley received the prestigious ArtStart grant from the Australia Council for the Arts, enabling her to dedicate herself fully to her ceramic practice.
In 2016, Ashley’s artwork Ashkeeper earned the People’s Choice Award at the inaugural Life in Death exhibition hosted by Palliative Care Australia. The following year, she was selected for the Reflected Legacy Practitioner Training Program by Robyn Wilson and The Groundswell Project at Liverpool Hospital, NSW.
Exhibiting since 2008, Ashley’s creations are held in numerous private collections and have been featured in publications such as Frankie Magazine, IndieLove Magazine, Ceramics Art and Perception, and The Journal of Australian Ceramics.
